Lossiemouth FC - Match Reports
Huntly v Lossiemouth @ Christie Park, Huntly

18-Apr-2006 Huntly v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Two goals in a minute saw Huntly take all three points against Lossie at Christie Park tonight, but they had to come from a goal down to win, and were with only ten men for most of the game. Tony Ross had put the visitors ahead at half time but immediately after the break Huntly turned the game on its head through goals from Neil Reid and Jerry O’Driscoll.

A fine evening saw a modest crowd turn out for what most would have expected to be a quiet end of season affair, but those in attendance saw an entertaining and end to end game, with both sides eager to score straight from kick off.

Huntly were first to threaten when their number 7 raced down the wing before firing a shot towards goal, only to watch as it clipped the bar and flew over.

Lossie were fielding yet more new faces but it was one of the regulars who had the Coasters first chance. With Martin McMullan absent, Steven Ellis took up long range shooting duty and fired a few towards Gorski in the Huntly goal, but had trouble keeping them on target.

The home side had the ball in the net midway through the half, but were disappointed as it was ruled out, much to the disappointment of those in the stand who celebrated loudly.

The pace of the new additions to the Lossie side was causing Huntly problems, and the visitors took advantage of a quick break to open the scoring. An Ellis pass across the middle found Coull, who sprinted into the box before squaring to Tony ROSS. The former Forres Thistle player rammed his shot goalbound and it flew over the line, taking a deflection off Kyle Stewart as it went in.

Lossie could smell fear in a hesitant Huntly side and went looking for a second, and Ellis brought out an acrobatic save from Gorski as another long range shot went in.

The visitors were done something of a favour with five minutes left in the half when referee Cammy Mackay dismissed Gary McGowan for an incident only the whistler appeared to see. It didn’t prevent the home side having the best chance of the half immediately after. Gary Youngson was caught in possession in midfield and Huntly broke quickly through Matty Gairns, but despite being through on Dunn he fired over.

Half time - Huntly 0 Lossiemouth 1

It took only four minutes of the second half for the homesters to level things up. A corner from the far side was flicked on to Neil REID at the back post who squeezed the ball over the line from a couple of yards. It was a disappointing goal to concede so quickly into the half, but things got worse soon after.

Huntly took the lead minutes later when Jerry O’DRISCOLL raced onto a Richard Craig pass and finished well under Dunn. Even with Huntly a man down, Lossie struggled to cope at times and were thankful to Steve Dunn in goals for keeping them in the game at times.

Lossie had a great chance to draw level with twenty minutes remaining. Good work by Dougie Coull saw him find Hendry on the edge of the box, and the hardworking midfielder turned his man and shot at goal from a dozen yards, but could only watch as the ball rolled inches wide.

Lossie then settled down and proceeded to make more of a fist of things, with Dougie Coull heading down into the path of Kyle Stewart only for the Huntly defence to mop up. For all the difference in league positions, there was little to choose from between the sides, with Lossies enthusiasm a match for Huntlys organisation.

The visitors almost forced an equaliser at the death when Alan Redford had to be quick to nod David Hendrys goalbound header off the line, depriving Lossie of what some would say was a deserved point.

In the end it was not to be, but Lossie continue to make progress, with several new faces fitting in well. With Locos at Harlaw Park the last game of the season, it would be a fine conclusion to the season to have a full squad available as Lossie attempt to beat Inverurie for the first time and finish the campaign in style.
