Clachnacudden v Lossiemouth @ Grant Street Park, Inverness

08-Oct-2005 Clachnacudden v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Lossies recent run of form continued this weekend, with Clachnacudden the latest side to put the Coasters to the sword. Despite an encouraging start from the visitors, Clach ran out comfortable winners to give new manager Dave Mackay a win to start his management career.

Heavy rain met both sides as they ran out for the first half, and both sides took their time to find their feet on the slippery surface. Lossie took the game to visitors in the opening stages, pushing the ball out onto the wings for Hendry and Moir but the Clach defence saw off any threat.

The home side took the lead just short of the quarter hour mark through Alex BONE. The former Elgin player headed a Steve McDonald cross at Dunn who saved well, only for Bone to nod the rebound over the line.

Minutes later Clach could have had a second through Morrison, but his swerving shot could only beat Dunn and smack off the post before being cleared.

Lossie came more into the game as the half wore on, and Dixon saw a well hit shot from a dozen yards deflected over the bar. McMullan went close shortly after, sending a rasping shot goalward from the corner of the 18-yard box. Unfortunately, another deflection saw the ball rise to hit the junction of post and bar, and the ball bounced to safety.

A second goal minutes before the break ensured Clach could spend their half time discussing the Scotland v Belarus tie which was now looming large on the horizon. Gordon Morrison swung an excellent cross into the box, where it was met by Alex BONE, who had the easiest of headers from a few yards out.

Half time – Clachnacudden 2 Lossiemouth 0

Lossie were the first to threaten in the second half, and the Clach keeper got down well to save a shot from Morrison. At the other end, Dunn pulled off another fine save to deny Ross, whose header was goal bound until turned round the post.

On the hour, Clach had the game in the bag, and it was another goal from a set piece. A corner from Blair Lawrie landed at the feet of an unmarked David ROSS at the far post, and he drilled a shot under Dunn.

Lossie were now only occasionally in the game, and only rarely threatened the Clach goal. McMullan met the ball well from a Hendry corner, but his header went wide of the post. Clach were coping with Lossie without breaking sweat, but could not keep any of their number of shots on target. Lewis Ross was guilty of the worst offence, beating two men in the middle of the park and running clean through on Dunn, only to fire high over the bar with Bone wide open on his left.

Clach got a fourth ten minutes from time through BONE, who took advantage of more slack defending to nod home at the far post. Soon after, Lossie got a goal of their own. Kennedy found his corner headed straight back to him, and he drilled a low shot hard into the box, where Jordan Main flicked it onto Craig MORRISON, who nodded home from a few inches out.

Clach were not finished yet, however, and added a fifth through Steve MCDONALD, who headed in after another pin point corner from David Ross.

A fine win for the home side, who will be happy to be off and running under a new management team, but Lossie will need to improve dramatically if they are to take anything from a rampant Inverurie Locos side in the next two weeks.
