Lossiemouth made it four wins in a row and five games unbeaten overall with a win over Fort William at Grant Park. Goals from Steven Ellis, Jordan Main and the winner from Steven Dixon secured victory, but the Coasters did it the hard way, having to come from a goal down early on. The opening chance of the game fell to leading scorer Craig Morrison, who took down a long goal kick from Dunn and shot from 20 yards, but former Coaster Mark McRitchie saved well. The opening goal came just after quarter of an hour, started with a goal kick from Dunn, which was headed down and played long into the Lossie half. With plenty men at the back, it was a surprise to see Mark SANDERSON steam through a stationary rearguard and hit a cracking volley which flew past Dunn and landed in the corner of the goal. It took Lossie only a minute to get the equaliser. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball cleared off the line, and it was half cleared to Moir, whose shot was tucked away to the far post by Steven ELLIS. Just
before the half hour, Lossie took the lead. Morrison received the ball
from Moir on the edge of the box and fired a shot at McRitchie, deflected
the ball out to Jordan MAIN, who happily accepted the chance to
score his first goal for the club. Minutes later, Fort William had pulled
the game level, when some slack defending allowed the opening scorer
Sanderson to cross the ball right onto the head of Scott BARLOW who
sent it into the net via the fingertips of Dunn and the underside of the
bar. Half time – Lossiemouth 2 Fort William 2 The
home side tightened things up for the second half, looking more solid in
the opening exchanges, and took the lead for the second time in the game
in the 53rd minute. A Jordan Main corner was met at the near
post by the knee of Steven DIXON, and the Fort defence could only
watch in agony as the ball trundled along the deck in slow motion and
rolled over the line. Lossie managed to retain their slender lead for the remainder of the afternoon, but had chances to put the game well beyond their visitors before the final whistle finally arrived. Only minutes after scoring, Dixon found himself easing past his man to chase onto a long ball downfield, only for his touch to let him down, denying him a second goal for the afternoon. Craig Morrison the produced his best work of the afternoon, sprinting through the Fort midfield from the halfway line, only to put the ball the wrong side of goal once the target was in sight. The best chance fell to Martin McMullan midway through the half, but he narrowly failed to direct the ball towards goal following a pinpoint cross from Youngson. Despite the visitors coming back into the game late on, Lossie managed to keep Fort William at bay for the remainder of the match and held on to secure another three points which promotes them to eighth in the league, and sets up nicely this weeks trips to Elgin City and Nairn County. It wasn’t pretty, but we can worry about sexy football once we have a few more wins on the board. Full time – Lossiemouth 3 Fort William 2 |
