Buckie Thistle v Lossiemouth @ Victoria Park, Buckie

03-Dec-2005 Buckie Thistle v Lossiemouth - Scot-Ads Highland League

Another week, another hiding. Lossie could only watch on as Buckie went one better than near rivals Keith and fired seven past a side who looked like they would rather have been somewhere else for the afternoon. As the last chance to impress before the Scottish Cup tie against Spartans, Lossie were expected to put up a fight against a Jags team who beginning to gel nicely, but apart from a spell at the start of both halves, the visitors were rarely involved.

Buckie took only six minutes to launch themselves into the lead. A perfectly executed free kick from Andy LOW curled round the defensive wall, hit the post and rolled along the line and into the goal.

On the quarter hour, it was 2-0. Mike Macdonalds low driven pass was missed by a static defence and Ryan SMITH tapped home from a couple of yards. Lossie lifted themselves briefly and David Hendry tested Kevin Main in goal with a shot which was never going to trouble the former Lossie keeper, and shortly after a ball over the middle from McIntosh sent Craig Morrison clear, but he could only place his shot into the keepers arms.

It was 3-0 just short of the half hour and it was Shawn SCOTT who scored. Andy Low played a delicate cross into the box and Biscuits was there, completely unmarked to head home. Four minutes later it was 4-0. Andy Lows corner deceived all in the box and SCOTT again was on the goal line to bundle the ball into the net.

Steve Dunn in the Lossie goal pulled off a fantastic one-handed save to palm away another header from Biscuits who was eager to claim a hat trick against his former employers.

In the last throes of the half, Lossie almost pulled one back after some poor defending by Buckie, but Morrison saw his shot cleared off the line to safety, and the teams retreated to the warmth of the changing rooms for the interval.

For the second half, Lossie threw on Graeme Kennedy to work up front with Morrison, and at least with two up front we were likely to spend more time in Buckies half. In the first minute of the half, Gary Youngson swung a ball into the Buckie penalty area only for Main to pluck it out of the air before a prowling Morrison could get to it.

Minutes later Lossie had their best chance of the game. A goal kick from Dunn bounced through the Buckie defence and Morrison chased on before squaring to Kennedy. The substitute composed himself before striking the ball at goal, only to watch it smack off the post and bounce away. McMullan then attempted to chip Main, but his effort flew up and over the bar.

Buckie gave Lossie a reminder that they were still here when Jamie Shewan rattled the crossbar from 25 yards with a belter of a shot, but Lossie didn’t heed the warning and with fifteen minutes to go it was 5-0.  Neil Murray launched a clearance out of defence and SHEWAN ran on to take possession, chip Dunn and roll the ball home.

Minutes later a similar ball out of defence saw Stuart MCGUIGAN round Dunn on the edge of the box before slotting home to make it 6-0, and in the very last minute MCGUIGAN made it 7-0 after Ryan Smith had Lossie defence all over the place.

Not the best of preparation for next weeks game against Spartans, although the East of Scotland side had a miserable afternoon of their own, losing 3-0 to Heriot Watt University. Spartans will no doubt regain their focus for Saturdays game, however, and Lossie will need to produce the best performance of the season if we are to have any chance at all of winning or even snatching a second chance in a replay.
