20-Jun-2007 Lossiemouth v Rangers - less than two months away!
A date to put in the diary for Lossiemouth supporters, followers of Glasgow Rangers and SHFL fans in general  is Sunday September 9, hopefully on the back of a good Scotland win over Lithuania the previous day.

That is the day when a team of Lossiemouth Legends & Guests will be put together to play a team of Rangers Legends at Grant Park.

Confirming the event is beginning to take shape, Royce Clark of Grampian Furnishers, main sponsors of Lossiemouth FC, said:

"It is an exciting venture which I am undertaking with fellow businessmen and Gers supporters David Carson of KDI in Keith and David Guidi from the 1629 in Lossie. Naturally the aim is to make a lot of money and we will be nominating local charities / groups along with Lossiemouth FC to be joint beneficiaries, the more we raise the more groups we will be able to help.

Mark Hateley is co-ordinating things from the Rangers end with Andy Goram, John Brown, Richard Gough and Mark Walters the early names on the list. This is not a new thing for them, they recently played together in Belfast in another charity match.

We have arranged a Formal Dinner on the Saturday night, pre match lunch on the Sunday, both at the Lossiemouth Social Club and an informal dinner at the 1629 on the Sunday night, all involving the Rangers players"

While the Rangers team will gradually take shape, the criteria for selection for the Coasters side may not necessarily be over 40, with rumours ex Ger Mikey Rae and Nicky Walker have already been sounded out about playing a half.

Colin Ross has been tasked with piecing together the home line up, Tommy Madden and Gordon Winton certainly candidates along with Ivor Pirie, Scott Paterson, Fraser Kellas, Andy Walker and Ian Stewart. Ronnie Dunbar has also been touted along with some of the people who were recently being recruited for an Over 40 event.

Lossiemouth FC Secretary Alan McIntosh is excited about the whole weekend and knows that with the huge Old Firm following in Moray, Aberdeenshire and the Inverness area, there could be a big crowd on the Sunday:

"I would say the aim has to be for a crowd of 1500 given that the event is being launched this week. It is not just a game but a chance for football fans of whatever team to come along and see some Rangers legends in action against players who have represented Lossie and perhaps other SHFL teams"

Tickets for the game are priced at £10 and the dinner at £40 available from Royce on 07977058530 or David on 07711844406.
